 ENVIROMENTAL STRATEGY
KORONA S.A.

 

Korona S.A. is one of the most dynamically developing candle manufacturers in the European Region. Korona S.A. owing to its consolidated production potential ranks among the largest companies in this industry both in Poland and in Europe. We are the company which runs its business in a reliable and responsible way contributing to promote the principles of sustainable development as well as creating the stable conditions of employment.

Being governed by the principles of the social responsibility and the principles of the sustainable development the organisation makes efforts to come up to the expectations of its present and prospective customers and the society. All the products manufactured by Korona S.A. are far ahead of the ecological standards in force both in Poland and the European Union as regards the ecological values. The ecological responsibility of the company is oriented at cleaner production and safe products. In compliance with the business strategy we constantly intensify the processing of renewable resources and at the same time we substantially increase the range of innovative investments. Our concern for the natural environment and effective self-limitation of the impact on the environment constitutes an integral part of the development strategy of the company.
The social responsibility has made Korona S.A. sensitive to social issues for many years now. One of the fundamental principles of our social policy is responsible treatment of the human rights, the rights of employees, respect for the intellectual capital as well as the experience of the people who decide about the success and development prospects of our organization.

 

1. People

Korona S.A. approaches the issue of the social responsibility very seriously. It strives to make all the undertaken actions to be in compliance with the highest standards as regards the labour law, protection of human rights, the impact on the society and the responsibility for its products. The management of human resources in accordance with the principles of equal chances is a vital element of the sustainable development. The Initiator’s attitude to the employees is defined by the company’s ethic policy. The Initiator strives to create the working environment based on the respect and mutual confidence. Any signs of the discrimination of employees in Korona S.A. Company both at the stage of recruitment and later professional development on account of the race, religion, faith, skin colour, ethnical background, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or any other features protected by law are contrary to the company’s organizational culture and as such are not tolerated in he organization.

 

2. Investments

Investing in the innovation of the products and services offered by us is oriented at a positive influence of the undertaken actions in most domains of the life within the company and outside it. For our employees such an attitude means continuous and radical actions in order to improve the conditions of occupational safety and hygiene as well as development of their talents and skills. Outside the company it is manifested by our engagement in constant reduction of negative impact on the natural environment with the simultaneous increase in production and sale. Our actions of scientific, technical, organizational, financial and commercial character focus on development and implementation of new or substantially improved products and processes based on the principle of sustainable development. The signs of this are the activity connected with the development of new products, the purchase of machines and equipment with higher technological parameters which are necessary for the implementation of production processes of new products as well as building and modernization of infrastructure facilities used for implementation of innovations. The implementation of new technologies is based on:

· Sustainable use of natural resources;

· Sustainable production;

· Sustainable logistic systems;

· Sustainable disposing of wastes.

 

3. Sustainable production

Our concern for the lowest environmental nuisance of the production process is also a sign of implementation of the principles of sustainable development. Owing to the application of modern constructional and technological solutions, the production carried out in the plant is a process which is comparatively little noxious for the natural environment. Modern technologies consisting in:

- implementation of process solutions which minimize the technological processes;

- use of the knowledge in designing production systems;

- implementation of flexible customerized production;

- non-stock production (manufacturing and delivering materials and products exactly when they are needed);

- use of material-saving solutions in the production of goods;

employed in the factory shall minimize the electric energy consumption, water consumption as well as the consumption of renewable and non-renewable resources. Furthermore, the company declares the constant monitoring of process elements which may prove to be potentially hazardous both for the environment and occupational safety and hygiene contributing in this way to even wider implementation of the policy of sustainable development in the factory.

 

4. Suppliers

The company takes the environmental criteria into account also during the purchasing process and cooperation with subcontractors realizing that the management of the supply chain is presently one of the key elements of promoting the standards of sustainable production and consumption. That is why we will enter into cooperation with partners who are aware of their influence on the environment and undertake every action towards the promotion of the CSR standards. In view of this during the purchasing process we pay attention to the fact that:

· the purchased goods should have appropriate certificates/decisions/declarations which authorize their sale, usage and operation and confirm their compliance with fixed legal and standard requirements of the environmental protection;

· the manufacturers/suppliers of the products which may pose any dangers for the natural environment should provide them with appropriate protection and written cautions as to the way of their usage and application with proper consideration for the requirements of the protection of the natural environment;

· the packaging of the products which may prove dangerous for the natural environment should have appropriate information and labelling which facilitate their further utilization in accordance with the legal requirements of the environmental protection;

· the manufacture/supplier of toxic or dangerous substances should be obliged to accept:

  •    substances past their expiry date;
  •    substances in damaged packaging, not suitable for their further use;
  •    packaging left after these products;
returned by us.

 

5. Sustainable waste management and recycling

The implementation of low-waste technologies, optimization of production processes as well as the use of high quality raw materials is the priority in the waste management. We ensure detailed documentation of the waste flow, transfer, preparation and disposal of wastes in the way which is very efficient, economical and safe for people and the environment. In accordance with the adopted management principles the vast majority of the generated wastes are intended for recovery or recycling and the only restrictions can be the technical possibilities of processing this type of wastes. The high level of the training of employees results in precise segregation and high purity of the collected wastes which are ready recyclable materials. The wastes are transferred only to verified companies which have taken administrative decisions appropriate for the waste management.

 

6. Summary

Korona S.A. places particular emphasis on the necessity to conduct all activities in accordance with the concept of the sustainable development. Both the investment process and later operational activity, cooperation with suppliers and other third parties is conducted with appropriate concern for the natural environment. According to the opinion of the Managing Board of the Company the idea of the sustainable development should be propagated, hence the company’s striving for public presentation of its goals and results of the policy of sustainable development implemented in the company. The company hopes that this document shall give its customers, suppliers, business partners and local communities wider view on the activities undertaken by Korona S.A. in this respect. The company also believes that the implementation of this strategy shall translate into acquiring loyal customers as well as contributing to create its positive image and shall increase the engagement and work efficiency of the employees and give the tone to the relationships with the local community and local authorities.
